LAN party update
As of 3:30PM today, we’ve had 21 pre-registrations for the LAN party. This is a phenomenal response. I’d like for everyone who is coming to take a second to go over to the LAN site and sign up so we can get an accurate headcount. This is more important this year then it has been in previous years because the party is both free and filling up quickly.
Also, the flyers have been printed and are ready for distribution. I haven’t seen a large (read: any) response of offers to help distribute, but if you have some time over the next two days, please let me know so I can give you some of these to post around campus.
I look forward to seeing each of you at the LAN. Come prepared to have some fun

I know that you guys sponsored the PHP lesson late Spring and I was wondering if anyone was willing to do something similar for Ruby on Rails? I’m really interested in learning more about it but I’m not really sure where to start since I don’t have much of a database background. Just thought I’d throw out an idea…

I know of at least two members of the group who are currently writing applications in Ruby on Rails. I can’t speak for them (since I’m no longer a Vanderbilt student, incidentally having left to pursue a career writing ROR apps) but I would bet that they would be interested in some kind of Rails introduction.
In the meantime, I would recommend watching the screencasts and the book Agile Web Development with Ruby on Rails. And if you’re very interested in databases, CS265 might be an interesting (though possibly challenging if you’re not a CS major) course to take.
