Computer Classes and Web Work

Hello all,

We have some exciting opportunities available for people interested in working with VandyCS. The first is something through SGA whereby we offer information about how to use common office programs — e.g. Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. They are particularly interested in use of Excel and Powerpoint. There may be compensation available for this (obviously, at a lower rate then web work).

We also have two possibilities for web work which are fairly significant. These are both projects requiring a professional or at least semi-professional web designer. The scale of these projects is in the $400-1000 range. One would be a store front type site (with some immediate work required to add a couple of pages to their existing layout first), the other is a website for a student organization. If anyone is interested in a solo or duo project and think you have the skills necessary, let me know.

As always, I’m available at president@vandycs.org or my name @ vanderbilt.edu for interested parties.

ACM Programming Competition

Just wanted to pass on this note from Matt DeVries for those interested in the ACM Programming Competition

Jason Roberts, President
Vanderbilt Computer Society

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to get things started for Vanderbilt to participate this year in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. We had a few teams participate last year, and they had a lot of fun and did pretty well, with one team taking first at the testing site, even though we didn’t do a whole lot to prepare for it. In the competition, teams of three get one computer and 5 hours to write programs to solve several problems. You can find more info at Baylor and Rockhurst. If you’re at all interested, please come to an organizational meeting in FGH 110 this Wednesday, October 4 at 7 PM, or email me at matthew.t.devries@vanderbilt.edu

Matt
