Rock Band 2 Rules

Bands must register with the Rock Band Boss to compete. Three players may compete, but one will need to sing to remain competitive. The boss will maintain a list of “free agents” to make bands from if you do not have a premade band.

Only 8 bands will advance from the elimination round. You may pass with a percentage if other bands fail at a lower percentage.

This is a competition, but remember to have fun! Everything tournament-wise is score based, but feel free to dress up if you want to really have fun with it.

Band members must all play on hard or higher to be competative. AKA you’re disqualified if you play lower.

Bands MUST WAIT for a Rock Band worker to write down their score after completing a song or be immediately disqualified.

Bands who advance past the elimination round will be given a form of identification so as to make finding you easier.

Entire band MUST be at the Rock Band Boss’s location when it is your turn to pick a song, or else you will be playing with whatever band members you currently have.

Ultimately, being on time for the song selection and performances is the responsibility of the band, not the organizers. We understand there are other tournaments, but songs take a long time to play and we have a strict timeline.

You MAY pull in an outside person to play a song if you feel they can help you pass and they are not part of another band.

A whiteboard next to the tournament boss’s station will be updated with continual information about the tournament as for who is playing and who is next and any delays.

Mic stands will be brought in case anyone wants to sing and play an instrument.

There will be a break for Pizza. We all want our food, and those singers love cheesy throat.

StarCraft 2 Tournament Rules

Game setup

The tournament will be 1v1, played double elimination*.

All must provide their own computer with StarCraft II installed, and must have an active Battle.net account to participate.

The rounds will be played with the following series of maps:

  • Lost Temple
  • Blistering Sands
  • Metalopolis
  • Steppes of War

And will repeat as many times as necessary, depending on the size of the bracket.

The only observers allowed in a match will be controlled by or have permission from the tournament bosses.

*Subject to change if large number of participants.

Rules

  • All players must notify other player before pausing or resuming.
  • Intentional use of game bugs is not allowed, and may result in a disqualification, at the discretion of the boss.
  • No external programs may be used during tournament play. This includes chat or voice chat applications.
  • All players must be responsible for their own computer; hardware or software failures which result in a prematurely ending game will be forfeited by the party on whose end the failure occurred, unless the other party agrees to a rematch.
  • All network connections must be hardwired. Ethernet cables will not be provided.
  • In the case of network failure, NEVER click “drop player”. Alert a tournament boss if this occurs.
  • If a delay of game is suspected (generally, a game lasting over an hour and where neither player is actively pursuing victory), the bosses may force faster gameplay. This will be exercised only in extreme cases.

The tournament bosses reserve the right to disqualify players on the grounds of other behavior deemed cheating or disruptive, at their sole discretion.

Post-match

All replays MUST be saved by each player upon completion of the match.

Upon the request of either party, the tournament manager will review the replay to look for evidence of unfair play. Challenges must be brought to the attention of the boss immediately after the match has ended.

For questions or clarifications, contact Aaron Setser.

VandyLAN is Coming!

VandyLAN Fall 2010 is fast approaching! This semester’s VandyLAN, hosted once again at Featheringill Hall, falls on November 12th. Now, less than three weeks away, we’re opening registration for tournaments and volunteers!

To participate in a tournament, register via the tournament registration form to let us know that you’re interested in competing. Anyone interested in participating in a tournament must register via the link above before the LAN begins.

Those wanting to help run the LAN (and receiving an extra ticket for doing so!) should let us know by registering as a volunteer. Volunteers may participate in tournaments as well.

Tickets for the LAN will be issued at the sign-in table, which will open at 7pm. Everyone will receive 3 tickets for signing in before the tournaments begin. Volunteering, distributing flyers, and attending 3 of the 4 pre-LAN meetings are each worth one additional ticket. Donating consoles (and controllers), games and televisions for the night merits extra tickets as well.
